You remember it always. The first time someone said to you, “There’s something on your face.” Maybe it was a kid you went to school with, and you ended up never liking him after that. Maybe it was your child who put her chubby finger on it and asked if your face was dirty. “No, it’s just a birthmark,” you always replied.
Thanks to Kalos Facial Plastic Surgery, you don’t have to live with a disfiguring birthmark any longer. Dr. Stong can help you minimize its appearance for good.
Types of Birthmarks
There are two basic variations of birthmarks: Pigmentary and Vascular. Pigmentary birthmarks are usually an uneven shaped splotch that is a couple shades darker than your normal skin tone. They can be found almost anywhere on your body, though not usually on your palms or the soles of your feet.
Red or Purple Spots
Vascular birthmarks are a little more noticeable. They include hemangiomas, port wine stains and “stork bites.” They usually appear on the face or neck, are red in appearance, and mark where a group of blood vessels has grown together. They are not typically dangerous, but can create self-consciousness in a young child. Even adults can be painfully aware of them.
Atlanta Laser Birthmark Treatments
At Kalos Plastic Surgery, we use specialized lasers to treat both types of birthmarks. The lasers shrink the blood vessels of the hemangioma, often leaving it so light as to be unnoticeable. Pigmentary marks will simply disappear. You can have skin and a beautiful face to be proud of.
