Rhinoplasty surgery affects the size, shape or proportions of your nose. “Nose jobs’ can change your looks, fix birth defects, repair deformities from an injury, and even help you breathe better.
Recovering from this procedure will take some time. Knowing exactly what to expect will help you to be better prepared for the process!
Immediately After Surgery
When you’re released to go home after your surgery, you’ll either have small staples or stitches placed inside your nose or mouth. The stitches are dissolvable, but the staples will need to be removed by our Atlanta facial plastic surgeon after you’ve healed.
You’ll leave the surgery center with a bandage and possibly a splint over your nose, which will help protect it and limit swelling. A nasal drip pad will collect any drainage and you’ll need to replace it regularly. We may also place packing material, which will be removed about two days after surgery.
Sometimes, bruises or swelling will extend as far as your eyes, but it should go away in 3 to 4 weeks. Moderate discomfort in your nose and mild headaches are common.
Seeing the Results
3 to 4 weeks post-op, your bruising and swelling will have subsided. When looking in the mirror, you’ll be able to tell what your “new” nose will look like once it’s fully healed. Final results may not be seen for up to a few months after your rhinoplasty in Atlanta.
