Juvederm Voluma XC facial filler is finally available in the United States, and Kalos Facial Plastic Surgery was among the first offices in Atlanta to carry this revolutionary new product. Voluma is indicated to treat volume loss in the mid face and cheeks, while addressing the “three dimensional” effects of aging. One of the biggest advantages of Voluma to other facial fillers is its longevity, lasting up to two years in many cases. Traditional hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane only last about 6-9 months, so the invention of an effective, longer lasting product is of great value to patients and physicians alike.
Patients have already been extremely impressed by the effects of injections with Voluma, and the product is in extremely high demand. We already know that Voluma can adequately address the 3-D effects of aging, and can restore volume loss to the cheek and mid face region, taking years off of a patient’s appearance without surgery. From the effects we have observed in the mid face and cheek region, it leads the injector to believe that the product will be effective in treating the signs of aging in other areas of the face. While the product has not been specifically indicated for other areas yet, we believe it is only a matter of time before clinical testing will be finalized and new indications for the product will be made. Even when using Voluma for the indicated use of restoring volume to the mid face, other areas of the face that have experienced volume loss will be improved.
There are off-label uses for the product as well, and it may be a matter of time before the indicated uses of Voluma expand to incorporate these areas. The off-label areas where the product can be used are the temporal (temple) region, nasolabial folds (“smile lines”), marionette lines (lines extending from the corners of the mouth to the chin), and the jawline. Some experts are even discussing using the product on the backs of the hands. The product has already been proven so effective, that if and when it becomes indicated for use in other areas, it will be nothing short of a breakthrough in the field of anti-aging medicine.
