Forehead Osteoma Removal
Relatively common, hard knots on the forehead are often a result of benign bony growths—osteomas. Forehead osteomas may be present at birth, or they may develop over time, and are most frequently seen between the hairline and eyebrows. Though they may cause pain, most will agree that the biggest concern is their unsightly appearance. Interestingly, many are unaware that forehead osteoma removal can be a straightforward, simple in-office eye and brow procedure.
Typically, the approach to osteoma removal involves making a small buttonhole incision along the face—at the hairline and scalp. Since the majority of benign osteomas incorporate only the outer portion of the skull, there’s no need for a deeper perforation. However, a CT scan may be performed initially to ensure that the bony lesion is not connected to other structures.

Minimally Invasive (Endoscopic Treatment)
Using a minimally invasive endoscopic technique, the removal of a forehead osteoma usually takes 30 minutes or less, and recovery is minor. While anesthesia needed is light, some may request IV sedation. In turn, the location of the osteoma will determine the path of the incision. While most would prefer that the incision be hidden within the hairline, there are some instances that require the incision to be directly over the lesion.
With advanced skill, Dr. Stong performs minimally invasive endoscopic treatments for osteomas with precision, combining science with artistry as he corrects and restores a natural look to the face. He understands that the forehead is a major contributor to the overall aesthetics of the face.
