Both neck liposuction and neck lift surgery are used to refine and contour the neckline. But deciding which procedure is right for you depends on your particular condition and desired outcome. The following is a guideline for each treatment.
Neck Liposuction
During liposuction, fat is removed from the subcutaneous tissue layer of the neck to sculpt and contour your neck and jawline. To do so, a small incision is made in the chin and behind each earlobe, which allows us to insert a thin cannula to remove the excess fat. Liposuction is only capable of removing fat, and as such, the best candidate for this procedure will have the right amount of skin and muscle tone.
Neck Lift Surgery
If you have loose skin or weak muscle tone, then a neck lift surgery may be better for you. This procedure can lift and tighten sagging muscles and excess skin can be redistributed or removed.
To do so, Dr. Stong will make incisions behind each ear and separate the skin from the muscles. Then he’ll remove excess fat, and lift and tighten the neck muscles using sutures. Finally, he’ll replace the skin, removing any excess amount if necessary, and close the incisions with discrete sutures.
Getting A Double Dose
For optimal results, it may be best to use a combination of both liposuction and neck lift surgery. Neck liposuction can remove excess fat to sculpt a more defined jawline while neck lift surgery can remove excess skin. It’s also possible that both procedures are completed using the same incision, leaving you with less scarring.
