Microneedling is a minimally invasive, non-surgical cosmetic procedure that has been used for many years in Atlanta.
Microneedling uses a group of very short, thin needles to pierce the skin, causing a tiny surface injury and triggering your body to start the healing process. In doing so, new collagen and elastin tissues are produced, resulting in skin renewal and rejuvenation.
When done properly, microneedling can plump and thicken skin, reduce fine wrinkles, stretch marks, scarring, and hyperpigmentation.
Facial microneedling is most popular but this treatment can be done pretty much anywhere, like on the legs, chest, butt, or even on the scalp to promote new hair growth.
What to Expect During and After Microneedling?
Prior to starting your microneedling procedure, a topical numbing medication may be applied to the area to ensure that you stay comfortable throughout the entire procedure. As the small needles move around your skin, it’ll feel similar to fine sandpaper scraping the surface.
After your treatment, the skin will appear red and flushed, resembling a sunburn. This typically resolves within 12 hours to 3 days after the procedure. You may also experience mild swelling, tightness, and/or slight peeling of the skin.
Optimal skin improvements can be seen about 2-4 weeks after your treatment. For ideal results, multiple treatments may be recommended. Three to six sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart is a common treatment plan. Some conditions like deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks, and acne scars may require up to twice as many appointments.
