Every September in Atlanta, we find ourselves wondering, “Will Fall ever get here?!” While it may still feel like Summer outside, we know those crisp, cool Fall days that we long for are right around the corner. Fall also means less sun exposure (although it doesn’t mean it’s safe to stop wearing sunscreen!) and opens up the door for skin care treatments designed to renew and revitalize after months of harsh UV exposure. Fall is accurately nick-named “laser season” in the cosmetic world because so many patients prefer this time of year to work on their skin without having a lot of post-procedure sun. Patients often ask which treatments are best to correct and renew photo damage and aging skin. Of course, it depends on the individual patient, the condition of their skin, and current stage of skin aging. We do have suggestions below for patients wanting to bring back vitality and life to their skin this Fall.
We cannot stress enough the importance of pre and post-procedure skin care. In other words, this refers to the products patients use at home to get their skin ready for aggressive treatments and to maintain results following procedures. We like to analyze each individual patient’s skin thoroughly before making product recommendations, and after patients have their skin care regimens underway, we discuss treatment options. One benefit to purchasing skin care at a physician’s office is that patients have a licensed skin care professional and/or physician making recommendations for their individual skin type, and the products are medical grade with high concentrations of active ingredients. Many times, patients are able to see significant change in their skin from “cosmeceutical” (cosmetic/pharmaceutical) products alone.
Common treatments designed at anti-aging and skin revitalization that we recommend include lasers, injectables and chemical peels. Our professional staff will make recommendations based on the patient’s skin condition and their individual treatment goals. All of our treatments are designed to improve the skin and make it more youthful. For collagen building, we like Laser Genesis (a non-invasive laser facial treatment with no downtime) and Pearl laser treatments (more aggressive semi-ablative facial lasers with highly impressive results). For removal of unwanted pigmentation, we recommend Limelight IPL (Intense Pulse Light/”Photofacial”) and chemical peels. We also have lasers for unwanted vessels and veins, and hair removal. Finally, our injectable treatments include neurotoxins (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) designed to minimize fine line causing movement, and facial fillers, which add volume for a more youthful appearance.
Some patients choose to undergo surgical procedures in the Fall as they have more flexibility in their schedules. As well, who doesn’t want to look their best right before all those holiday parties?! Fall is an excellent time to undergo cosmetic surgery, and our dual board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Benjamin Stong, is an expert in surgery for aging faces and necks. His superior training and credentials coupled with his meticulous surgical technique make him one of the premiere surgeons in the cosmetic arena. He has been trained on the latest, most advanced methods for cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and injectables. For example, he has been using the cannula method with injectables for years, and is still one of the only surgeons in Atlanta performing injectables with this method.
